Pop Art in the Babe’s Room

My Pop Art knows that there are many ways to make your baby’s room special. Whether it’s the wallpaper or the stuffed animals or the white lace curtains, parents want to create a room that is “just so.” The child should feel very comfortable in it, of course. It should be a haven for a baby who is having a crying jag, a place to take the baby where he or she can relax and be at peace. Sometimes the hustle and the bustle of the rest of the house is just too much for a sensitive and tired baby.

The nice part is, you don’t have to spend a fortune to create a special place for your new baby. Every proud parents have tons of photographs of their newborn. The hard part is sifting through them and finding that real gem. Most parents think all of their photos are perfect for My Pop Art but you want to make sure the picture is well-lit, clear and close-up. My Pop Art can do the most magic with a good shot.

Once you receive your My Pop Art piece of your child, proudly hang it on the wall and notice the changes it does to your baby’s room. The room becomes more alive, more individualized for your baby. The child likes it as well, since young one’s eye naturally gravitate toward bright colors and bold figures.

Maybe it’s time to rethink loading your baby’s room with lots of stuff and instead choose a few well-placed and well thought-out items, like a rendition of your baby’s face in Pop Art form. It will be a keeper for life, unlike those stuffed animals!

Digital to Canvas - How to Soften your Photos

If you’re like me, you’re thrilled with the digital revolution. I can take a bunch of photos, delete them at will and then start all over again. This gives me more room to experiment. I can take a look at the photo immediately (instead of waiting for film to be developed) and decide whether I should make some lighting changes, etc. I can send them to friends around the world with a click of a button. I can take crystal clear pictures with an average camera that are almost pro-like.

Occasionally (and this is why I like My Pop Art so much) these photos are a little too clear for me. My gosh, when I took my first self-portrait with my new digital camera, I was shocked by the accuracy. It showed flaws I haven’t even seen in the mirror! Not fair! But My Pop Art has this great “Photo on Canvas” feature.

When I took a photo of my friend after a successful performance, glowing, proud and radiant, I sent it to My Pop Art and they made it into the nicest piece of work on canvas. It kind of softened that “all too clear” digital feel. It also felt more artistic somehow, something my art friend would surely appreciate. She was thrilled of course, and it now holds a place right over her desk.
So yes, digital is great but canvas still feels richer and deeper in my opinion. Choose the right photo and watch how well you can translate your digital shot to canvas. It makes a great gift because its unlike anything else, unless you’re the type who paints on canvas for hours at a time!

Pop Art Cards for your Next Event

It’s summertime and a great time to plan a party or BBQ. People like to be outside and seem a little more free-spirited than usual. My Pop Art cards are a perfect way to send an invitiation to your friends and family.

Backyard parties are always an option. You can get some torches and citronella candles (perfect to keep the dreaded mosquito away) to set the atmposphere. The food can be simple. If you have a grill, then you can toss just about anything on it, from burgers to fresh fish to a myriad of vegetables. You can even grill a banana - put it over ice cream. It’s a delicious summer treat.
It’s nice to have some summery music playing in the background. Reggae feels summery but even some classical or jazz will do the trick. If you can get some people dancing, then better yet. You don’t have to worry so much about things getting knocked over or drinks spilling.

Speaking of drinks, it’s a perfect time to make some sangria. Get cheap red wine (buying good red wine for sangria is kind of a waste) and cut up some fruits (anything from peaches to oranges to limes to blueberries - the sky is the limit…except for banana!) Chill it very well and you have yourself the standard drink for summer. For non-alcoholic beverages, use club soda in place or red wine.

My Pop Art provides cardsĀ  that YOU design. First send in a cool, summer shot and let them do their Pop Art magic. The invitation sets the stage for an event so have so fun with it. Maybe it’s a shot of a BBQ grille or a wave crashing. Whatever your choice, My Pop Art will make sure your cards are distinctive and fun.

Can Pop Art Help my Teenager?

My 16 year old son, Frankie, is a storm. A monster inside a storm. A manic monster in an electrical storm of hormones and teenage angst. He was such a quiet child. I’m not sure what happened, but when he turned 13, things started shifting…dramatically. He became extremely messy, leaving his room trashed constantly. He also became moody - majorly moody. And hyper. Moody and hyper is a crazy combination, just a heads-up! How did My Pop Art help me kid?

For Christmas, I ordered a Pop Art rendition of a beautiful photo I have of him. He is about 8 years old, sitting by a pond, looking off into space, little butterflies flying around his head. He looks very much at peace, calm and content. When I gave him the Pop Art rendition, he laughed. I explained to him that he used to be like this, more peaceful on the inside. I told him we would hang it up on his bedroom wall and when he woke up in the morning, he’d remember his essential self - one not as crazy and raging with hormones.

I’d like to tell you that it dramatically helped my teenager. That would be an untruth. But I think it set a seed in him somewhere. Maybe throughout the day, he’ll have a fleeting memory enter his frantic little mind. He’ll remember he can be a calm kid, even during a difficult and transitional time. At the very least, the portrait makes his messy room look a little better.

Pet Pop Art - Keeping the Memory Alive

When a pet dies, its a particular kind of sadness. Most of us equate our dear pets with the most unconditional of love. Our animals always accept us, with all of our flaws and foibles. They want nothing more than to spend time with us. We can see this when we open the door after a long day’s work - a greeting like no other.

So when a pet dies, it often leaves a gaping hole in our emotional life. It’s a grief that can seem like it may last forever - like the loss of a very good friend.

Here at PopArt, we recognize just how hard this time can be. We have our beloved pets as well and we also dedicate some of our profits to the welfare of animals. We know and we care about the memory of your pet.

Consider us memorializing the image of your pet with a beautiful print. You can choose to create a bright, vibrant Pop Art piece of it. Or maybe you’d prefer a vintage take on your dear pet. If you’re like us, you have many pictures of your pet to choose from. Pick one that you think best represents the personality of your pet. Once you send it to us, we’ll take care of it artistically in a loving, caring way.

A beautiful image of your pet isn’t the same as the loving presence of your pet - but it let’s your pride shine through. It’s a sweet homage of the relationship you had with your pet and sometimes, that’s a soothing thing.

Pop Art for your Game Room

I can think of no other room that is perfect for My Pop Art piece than our newly created game room. My husband and I built this room in an attempt to pry us away from the television. That’s right, we were becoming real junkies. From Lost to Law and Order, it seemed like our lives had become nothing but work and TV! When I suggested our game room, my husband was in full agreement: let’s create a room for fun, for friends, for anything other than TV.

I couldn’t wait to send my photo into My Pop Art. I took a macro (super close-up) shot of playing cards: a Jack, Queen and King of Hearts. They look so real, it’s amazing. Have you looked at their faces up close? It’s pretty interesting - they look so coy and reserved, as if they know something very powerful. The piece that was sent back to me was wonderful - so fun and bright and funky. The face cards jumped off the wall practically.
It inspired us to start having a game night with our friends. None of us really knew how to play cards so we resorted to games we knew when we were young. No Poker for us! It was Gin Rummy and Speed…silly stuff. But fun (especially fun with some brandy involved!)

Our game room really came together with our My Pop Art piece. It sort of guides the room, with the face card’s eyes following us as we try to pry ourselves away from the dumb, old boob tube!

A Pop Art Sunset

My mother and I love our sunsets. We live on a small island of the coast of New England and the sunsets are incredible. Over the years, I’ve collected countless photos of them. We have them all over the house - on the fridge, around my desk - even one on the mirror in the bathroom.

Truth be told, all of those old sunset photos were starting to get on my nerves! Our house is rather full of random stuff and in the last year or two, I’ve been really into purging and starting anew. Those photos were getting old and crinkly and seemed like a good candidate for the trashcan!

So my mother and I reviewed our favorite ones and sent two into My Pop Art - one for my mother and one for myself. What they did was spectacular. We received two pieces of sunset art, with wild bold colors of oranges, yellows and reds. Once we hung them up, we realized that these two pieces of art pretty much represented the years worth of photos we had taken. As a matter of fact, it was like a sunset times ten hanging on the walls! So I happily tossed all of the old photos away, confident that our brand new works of art really did the trick!

Sometimes its nice to purge all that random stuff in your household and replace it with something truly unique and artistic. I have a living, breathing sunset on my wall all the time now!

Pop Art for the New Baby’s Room

Frank and I didn’t have much of a budget to decorate our new baby’s room. I really wanted it to be special but some of this baby stuff…it costs a lot of money. Frank and I aren’t the frivolous types either. We don’t like to buy junk for the sake of buying junk, you know? We wanted things in the baby’s room that were practical. I wasn’t into 16 stuffed animals for instance. So when I heard about My Pop Art, I thought “perfect.”

I took a picture of our garden in the back yard in full bloom. Everything was going off! Bright oranges, yellows and even some blue zinnias for good measure. I sent it off and when it returned, I fell in love. I thought, now this is the kind of art work that can stay on the walls for years to come. It’s bright and eye-catching for the baby when she’s young (yes, we found out it was a girl!) and as the years pass, it’s a positive, interesting piece that brightens any room. Plus, at some point, I could explain to her what Pop Art is about and where it came from. I think art history is important. We all grow creatively on the shoulders of our artistic forefathers and foremothers, I believe.

So the baby’s room isn’t full of “stuff” but what’s in it, counts. And that makes both Frank and I happy. Sometimes I’m glad we don’t have all the money in the world. It makes for smarter choices. Thanks My Pop Art!

Light up your Bathroom

You know, for as much as I like decorating my house, I always felt like my bathroom got the short end of the stick. It just wasn’t very exciting to decorate. My living room has a giant fireplace, which I consider the centerpiece to the house, so of course it was easy to add all sorts of nice touches. The fireplace itself has these beautiful stone structures that I’ve placed around the mantelpiece. My kitchen is the main part of my home so that was the easiest to decorate, with orange lace curtains (which looks better than it sounds, believe me!) and soft yellow wallpaper with intricate design.

But back to my bathroom. In a word? Dull. My husband painted it grey for some unknown reason. It gets very little light since there is only one small window which doesn’t get much light throughout the day. Our bathroom is also kinda cramped and smaller than your average bathroom.

We already spent a good deal of money this year getting the rest of the house “more fashionable” so I needed something simple. I ordered a Limited Edition from My Pop Art and I can’t tell you how much difference it makes. I swear, it acts like a source of light in there, it’s so bright and inviting. It’s a purple and yellow image - it looks like a flower but often looks like many other things to me, depending on my mood. And it actually really works nicely against the grey walls. Good job, My Pop Art…and thanks!

My New Pop Art Car

When I graduated high school, my dad bought the best car ever: a 69 Chevy convertible. Sparkling baby blue. Growing up, my dad and I worked on old cars together. I knew I was getting a car for graduation but this was incredible! I think my Dad was as psyched about it as I was. The first day we were under the hood, taking a look at the underside of this baby and how to keep it purring! My dad had an additional gift, which I thought was pretty cool: he had taken a photo of the car and sent it into My Pop Art so they could…pop artify it! It was a great shot and the artwork was bright and funky, with these crazy colors. He thought it would be perfect for my dorm room. It ended up being the very first thing I put up on the wall. This way, when someone asks, I can say, “Yep, that’s my car!.” Now even when my car is in the garage, I feel like its right there with me. I know that sounds weird, because its only a car. But really…this car is not only a car - its a very special car. I wouldn’t be so keen on it otherwise. Thanks Dad. I’m thinking of buying a motorcycle next. I think the Pop Art piece up on the wall needs a brother. I’m thinking Harley but I’ll have to wait and see. I guess tuition comes first. What a drag!
