Perhaps you can relate to this pop art story. “Mary” had been out of a job for a few months. She had graduated a year earlier with her Bachelor’s in Business Administration and a minor in fine art. She had an internship at a prestigious art gallery and hoped to be able to continue working their permanently. But there had been a change of plans as far as the adminstriation was concerned. All of a sudden “Mary” had 4 other people competing for the same job!

What was “Mary” to do? She did the usual things everyone else would do in her situation. She filled out application, sent her resume and cover letter, and even phoned to follow-up. She had to do something else. She had to stand out from the rest and really show those people that she was the right one for the job. So “Mary” decided to create a pop art collage. She took various images of commercials and comics, and then created a killer pop art collage. Next, she printed it on silk screen and got a frame for it. She had the masterpiece delivered with signature confirmation directly to the boss in charge of hiring.

She didn’t get the job that day, nor did she get the job the next day, but that following week, she was called in for an interview and hired. They said that anyone that went to such an extent to show that they were serious had to have a chance. Besides, the boss was very pleased with the pop art master piece.

Pop art anniversary

Perhaps you can relate to this pop art story. “Jack” is a hard working family man. He’s got two sons, and four daughters, and a beautiful wife. He’s worked hard over the years to provide only the best for his family. His wife has had the choice to stay home with the kids or to work in a career of her own. She chose to stay home while the kids were young, and now that they’re almost grown up, she’s made a successful career herself.

Recenlty, “Jack” and his wife celebrated their 20th Anniversary. Like some guys, “Jack” had been so busy working and providing the best for his family, that this special occassion completely slipped his mind. So when he noticed his wife’s calendar marked “20th Anniversary” for that following Friday, he panicked! What on earth would he do! He knew that if his wife found out that he’d forgotten, she’d be very upset. He could hear her now “What kind of man forgets his wedding anniversary?!?!!” or “You don’t love me!!”.

“Jack” Had To Do Something! So He went on the Internet to Find Something Special At My Popart

“Jack” was in deep trouble! He knew he had to do something. So he went online frantically searching for a special gift. He didn’t want to just get any old gift, but something that was special. He didn’t want to just spend a lot of money, but he also wanted the gift to mean something. That’s when he stumbled upon Mypopart.com. His wife is an avid pop art fan, and “Jack” thought “what if I turn our wedding pictures into Popart?”. It will be the perfect gift for her!

So “Jack” decided to take their wedding pictures and transform them into a huge popart master piece. It would be something that they could both hang on the wall of their Bedroom. Just last year, his wife had redecorated their bedroom into this modern pop culture look. This would fit in perfectly! “Jack” had the pop art work made, and the anniversary celebration turned out fabulous! His wife didn’t know that “Jack” was so attentive and even cared about her special hobbies. It really made her feel good to know that “Jack” took an interest in her love for pop art. Will pop art save the day for you?

Andy Warhol, the prince of popart, first exhibited the Campbell’s Soup can paintings in the year of 1962. These were thirty-two canvases that that rested on a shelf created as a parody of the soup cans that were on the shelves of grocery stores all across the United States. These thirty-two acrylic paintings seemed to be a literal translation of the number of varieties of soup that was being sold by the Campell’s Soup company. This is how these soup cans changed the face of popart.

These pop art paintings were created and chronological order. The tomato flavor was introduced in 1897 and was placed at the upper left hand corner. The prince of popart claimed that he ate Campbell’s soup every day for lunch for over tweny years. Like other artists of his time, Andy Warhol took images that had mass appeal, such as those images of movie stars, rock idols and comics and used them in his art. He created many parodies of the large mass consumerism of the United States during the sixties.

He also used advertising style silk screen and graphics. Throughout his career, Warhol was repeatedly attached as being fake and shady. Despite this, he did strike a chord with the art world and the mass public. He became a very popular cult idol in the world of American art.

Acrylics were extensively used by this pop artist. Acryclics were first created and used as a solvent based medium. Today most artists use the water based acrylics, and these were launched in 1955. They are also known as “liquid texture”.

Acrylic paint was also used as common house paint. It was very popular, because it was very easy to cleanup with warm water and soap. The acrylic paintings of Warhol started to gain large financial success and respectability after the 1950’s.

My Popart Presents: Art Moves Our Life!

Pop art began way back in history. In the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, within the second part of the 19th century, there were new type of art styles born. These appeared and also disappeared at a very rapid pace. This was a reflection of the ever growing rates of change within our culture.

Modern art began with Impressionism. This started in Paris, due to a reaction to a very rigid and formal way of painting. This style was done inside of studios and set up by the traditional institutions of that time.

(source)
“The exhibition of Edouard Manet’s famous painting, Dejeuner sur l’herbe, in 1863 in the Salon des Refuses (organized by those painter who were rejected by the Academie des Beaux-Arts), caused a scandal. It can be considered as the beginning of Impressionism.”

These painters wanted to paint outside of the studio and studied the effects light hand on certain objects. Their subjects of choice were scenes of the daily life. Edouard Manet, Camille Pissarro, and Edgar Degas were some of the best known names in France. In England, it was Alfred Sisley.

Fauvism

Fauve or “wild animals” is a french word that was the precursor to Fauvism. This was a new style of modern art. True to its name, it was wild, with very strong colors. Vincent Van Gogh carried Impressionism to the extreme by using wild and vivid colors. This style of art went further and used very simple designs with a combination of strong and pure colors. The very first exhibition of this Fauvism took place in 1905. Henri Matisse is the best known fauve artist. Next in line are Maurice de Vlaminch, Raoul Dufy, and Kees van Dongen.

Abstract Art Born

Abstract Art was born with the father of abstract art, Wassily Kandinsky. This was a Russian-born artist. During World War II, a lot of the leading artists emigrated to the United States. Marcel Duchamp and Max Ernst were two of them. Because of this, New York became the new mecca for abstract art.

After abstract art, the pop art movement was born. Pop art stands for Popular art. The pop art movement started to bring art back into the normal life of every day people. It was begun due to a reaction against abstract art paintings. Pop artists considered abstract art as too elite and sophisticated. The favorite images of pop art were objects from every day life, such as soup cans and comics.
Pop Art Wave

The attitude of the pop art movement was one of using photo realistic techniques and creating them in mass production style. Pop art burst into the advertising and media scene. The line between commercial art and fine art disappeared. You can see an excellent example of this with the music album covers that started to pop up in the sixties. Pop art has come a long way, wouldn’t you agree?

As soon as he saw her, he fell in love. She was a chocolate colored lab, friendly, curious, and very strong. He took her home and she immediately felt at home. He called her Sheeba. It’s been almost a year now, since Sheeba came into Mark’s life. Recently, Mark joined an art class as extra credit for his job.

He came to appreciate pop art. So, he decided to get some pictures done in the pop art fashion. Of course, Sheeba would be one of those objects of pop art beauty. Now, everyone that visits Mark thinks it’s really amazing to have Sheeba’s popart hanging in his studio and hallway.

You, too, can have some cool pop art hanging in your home. You don’t have to have a chocolate lab to do it. You can take any picture, your cat, bird, your children, your spouse, or whomever. The only rule is that it has to be a picture you like.
