Pop art is a term that appeared during the 1950’s in Britain, which referred to the number of artists that were interested in using comics, advertising and mass media images in their art. This was a period of optimism in Britain. This was due to the end of the war time rationing. It was also a boom in consumerism and economy. British artists were influenced by Eduardo Paolozzi and Jasper Johns, as well as Robert Rauschenberg. The aim was to broaden the taste into much more popular and less academic styles of art.

Pop art was easy to coincide with pop music of the 50’s and 60’s, and many youth cultures were drawn to pop art. Pop art has become a part of the image of fashion.

One of those responsible for making pop art into what it is today is Andy Warhol. He began as a commercial illustrator. Most of the work flowed from a culture that was glutted with information. It was during a time when most people experience many things in seconds through TV and print ads. Now you can be supercool and own your own version of pop art.
